Host Plantation Expansion
Extension of host plantation at private level under both mulberry and non-mulberry sericulture sectors.
General Mandate of the Directorate of Sericulture
The Directorate supports the development of mulberry and non-mulberry sericulture across West Bengal through plantation expansion, quality inputs, infrastructure, post-cocoon technology, market support, skill development and convergence with complementary development programmes.
The mandate covers the sericulture value chain from host plantation and silkworm seed to rearing,
grainage, post-cocoon technology, capacity building and institutional support, with emphasis on
strengthening beneficiary livelihoods and technological adoption.
Key Areas of Mandate

Quality Planting Material & Silkworm Seed
Supply of high-yielding planting materials and silkworm seed at subsidized rates to support productivity and quality improvement.

Rearing & Grainage Infrastructure
Support for construction and remodelling of rearing houses and grainage houses for improved production conditions.

Rearing Inputs & Implements
Support for procurement of rearing implements, disinfectants, plantation inputs and other essential materials required for scientific sericulture practices.

Tasar & Muga Support
Input support for Tasar and Muga host plantation as well as silkworm rearing to strengthen the non-mulberry sector.

Post-Cocoon Technology
Supply and promotion of post-cocoon machinery such as M.R. machines, Buniyaad, motorized spinning wheels, hot-air dryers and related equipment.

Marketing & Institutional Support
Providing marketing, institutional and infrastructural support to rearers and graineurs for strengthening the sericulture value chain.

Capacity Building & Skill Seeding
On-the-job training, capacity building, skill seeding and BEP interventions aimed at technological upgradation and improved field practices.

Inter-Departmental Convergence
Convergence with complementary schemes and departments to broaden development support and optimize resources for sericulture beneficiaries.
